Actually I think it's status quo at this point. You get your arse handed to you in Dragon Ball, go train, attain a new level of Super Saiyan, and then pulling off a badass boast combined with a final attack that does the job. Rinse and repeat until GT where they react instead of pro acting with years of prep time. Regardless, Piccolo still owns the battlezone.

Not to mention even if Piccolo put the boys in the RoSaT, how strong do you think they'd get? How long do you think they'd have before Boo blew up the planet? Remember that when the kids did get that chance, they didn't make any notable gains - Gotenks did.
